LEA Supervisor Job Description

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Superintendent, the LEA Supervisor serves as the district’s designated Local Education Agency representative for Special Education. The LEA Supervisor ensures compliance with federal and state special education regulations, oversees the implementation of special education services, and provides leadership in the planning, coordination, and supervision of programs designed to support students with disabilities.

The LEA Supervisor acts with decision-making authority regarding the provision of special education services, staffing, and resource allocation.


Duties and Responsibilities

Compliance and Legal Oversight
  • Serve as the district’s designated LEA representative at IEP meetings when required.

  • Ensure compliance with IDEA and Arkansas Department of Education Special Education regulations and district policies.

  • Oversee development, review, and implementation of Individualized Education Programs, IEPs.

  • Monitor timelines for evaluations, eligibility determinations, and annual reviews.

  • Coordinate due process procedures, mediation, and state complaint responses as needed.

  • Maintain accurate records and required state reporting documentation.

    Program Leadership
    • Oversee the implementation of special education programs and related services.

    • Supervise special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.

    • Support effective instructional practices for students with disabilities.

    • Review and analyze student data to guide program improvement and goal setting.

    • Coordinate extended school year services, ESY, when applicable.

    • Ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are implemented in general education settings in accordance with IEPs.

      Collaboration and Communication
      • Maintain two-way communication with parents regarding special education services, procedures, and supports.

      • Collaborate with principals, counselors, and general education staff to support inclusive practices.

      • Provide training and guidance to staff on special education procedures and compliance requirements.

      • Serve as liaison between the district and outside agencies, co-ops, and service providers.

        Operational Management
        • Assist in development and oversight of the special education budget.

        • Monitor staffing needs and make recommendations for personnel assignments.

        • Oversee special education transportation, service contracts, and equipment purchases.

        • Participate in district leadership meetings.

        • Attend required state and regional professional development.

          Professional Responsibilities
          • Comply with district policies and Arkansas Department of Education regulations.

          • Adhere to standards for professional conduct.

          • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.


            Education, Experience, and Competencies
            • Arkansas Administration Certification required.

            • Special Education certification required.

            • Minimum of five years successful experience in special education preferred.

            • Knowledge of IDEA and Arkansas Special Education Rules and Regulations.

            • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.

            • Ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.


              Contract and Salary
              • 240-Day Contract
