Head Football Coach (3A) Job Description

Position Title: Head Football Coach (3A High School)

Location: Rivercrest School District, Wilson, Arkansas

Reports To: Athletic Director / Principal

Position Summary

The Head Football Coach is responsible for leading and sustaining a competitive 3A high school football program. This position oversees all aspects of the football program including player development, staff leadership, game preparation, and program culture. The role may include additional duties such as Athletic Director or additional coaching responsibilities based on district needs and candidate qualifications.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for all levels of the football program.
  • Plan and implement effective practices, game strategies, and offseason programs.
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches.
  • Develop student-athletes academically, athletically, and behaviorally.
  • Build and maintain a positive, disciplined, and competitive team culture.
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, staff, administration, and community.
  • Ensure compliance with Arkansas Activities Association rules and district policies.
  • Promote safety, sportsmanship, and character development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
  • Must possess a valid Arkansas teaching license with appropriate coaching endorsement or the ability to obtain appropriate licensure immediately upon hire.
  • Previous high school or collegiate coaching experience preferred; head coaching experience strongly considered.
  • Strong knowledge of football fundamentals, rules, safety, and player development.

Preferred Experience and Attributes

  • Demonstrated history of football success, including competitive performance or winning record.
  • Evidence of program growth and sustainability.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain coaching staff.
  • Clear short-term and long-term vision for a 3A football program.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
